How Healthy is your State?
According to http://www.americashealthrankings.org/2008/ the healthiest states are listed by the United Health Foundation. The following factors were taken into account: obesity, violent crime, binge drinking, air pollution, smoking, cancer and deaths and other data in its rankings. The top five healthiest states are Vermont, Hawaii, New Hampshire, Minnesota and Utah.
For the top states that is great news however the rankings also reveal that for the past four years overall health has not improved. This is where I believe we should strive to better ourselves in every way. The World Health Organization defines health as “a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity.” The pursuit of health requires personal, community, governmental and institutional commitment to create an environment in which the whole person can thrive.
With this in mind remember that we should make healthy choices everyday and strive to be better physically, emotionally and mentally. Because without our health we dont have anything. So lets get out there and join a gym, go for a run, stop the bad habits and make better choices that lead to a better tomorrow.
